Herbert Saurugg - Expert for blackout and crisis prevention - ViennaPresident of the Society for Crisis Prevention (GfKV), international blackout and crisis prevention expert, keynote speaker, idealist.As an expert in blackout and crisis preparedness, I have been dealing with developments in the European power supply system for 15 years. I am increasingly critical and concerned about them, as they are often handled in a very amateurish, haphazard manner and without any understanding of the system. At the same time, I call for the implementation of decentralized functional units with cross-sector energy management ("energy cell system", www.saurugg.net/energiezellensystem) with higher-level orchestration. This is the only way to keep the increasing complexity manageable - unless we override the laws of nature and the findings of evolution. The GEMINI project therefore fits in quite well, as it is about small functional units that combine key aspects of viable systems: reducing resource requirements, decentralization and error-friendliness. It is the first step towards larger functional units. Current developments in particular will challenge us more and more and require simple and affordable solutions. I hope that the project works this time in Hungary and falls on fertile ground so that it can then be scaled up further. |
